Footwear
For many of us, the days of wearing thongs as footwear are well and
truely over. For those that are bed ridden, Wheelchair bound, have blood circulation problems,
limited mobility, are diabetic or who experience joint pains pressure ulcers are a part of life and
require the correct footwear.
How do pressure ulcers form?
When skin is starved of nutrients and oxygen for too long, the tissue dies and a pressure ulcer forms. Even
slight rubbing or friction on the skin may cause minor pressure ulcers.
When do pressure ulcers occur?
Typically a person is at risk from developing pressure ulcers when they are experiencing an extended stay in
hospital or spending long periods laying or sitting in the same position.
Moisture management is a key factor in preventing ulcer development and wool naturally absorbs up to
30% of its weight in water. Wool’s natural thermal control capabilities mean these products
act as a warming agent in winter and the reverse in summer - enabling use all year round.
Being anti-bacterial and antimicrobial, wool has natural odour prevention. Each product
is machine washable - which not only makes it easy to keep clean but also increases the product’s lifespan
without compromising its therapeutic properties.
