Preventing weight gain is much easier than having to lose it later on. There are some habits that you need to form that will help you avoid gaining weight so that you can stay near a healthy weight.

The first thing you need to do is to start keeping track of what excess calories that you might be getting. If you get too many of these, you are going to gradually start to gain weight. One very common problem area is with the calories in drinks. Try to form the habit of limiting these types of drinks in your diet. When you do this, you can avoid gaining many pounds per year just by this one change.

Have some physical activities that you enjoy doing on a regular basis. It is best to get involved with things that are fun. The reason is that you will be more likely to continue to do these things if they are fun versus being a chore.

Get into cooking. When you cook at home, you can make healthier meals lower in fats and calories compared to eating out. The more you cook at home, the less likely it is that you will be gaining weight.

When you eat, try to be just eating and not much else. Focus on what you are eating and enjoy each bite. Eating does not need to be done quickly by any means. Doing it slowly can prevent you from overeating.

Drink more water. Water is good for the body and can suppress your appetite. This should help curb a few snacks each week which in turn can help you avoid gaining a pound or two here and there.

If you have moments where you feel down or depressed, be careful about turning to food. Try to have healthier ways of dealing with these feelings instead.
